And you wonder why?

Do You Live in a Down Town? // Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (© Bill Ross/Corbis)
According to an article in MSN Health & Fitness - "Is Your Town Down?", "Philadelphia has earned the melancholy distinction of being America's most depressed city"! No wonder I am, too!

I'll tell you why Philly makes people depressed (I live close by so I should know). It's the weather! Freezing in the winter and so hot in the summer! No beaches... that's another problem! Or maybe it's just me, I am just homesick!

Hi there!
Thanx for visiting my blog too! I don't know if you noticed but I provided a link to your blog from mine. I was in Lebanon this past Christmas, but it doesn't matter, I am still homesick! How about you? When's the last time you were in Lebanon? What are you doing in Philly?

Walla, I am only hypothesising as the last time I have been to the States was when I was four years old, but anyway, I share Maya's opinion in that it is largely the weather and, I am assuming things here, the relatively serious and conservative attitude that its citzens have towards life, also its centrality (both geographical and national). Notice how the happiest cities are the relatively small ones, the ones that are at the periphery (also both in geography and in cultural identity).

I nevertheless maintain that sunlight is the most important factor. It has been statistically "proven" that all-glorious Sweden is globally the highest country in suicides, and it has been scientifically "proven" that the main stimulant for certain "happiness" hormones is sunlight.
